About The Hostel
L'Auberge Internationale de Québec is a non-profit organization that was founded over 50 years ago!
Its mission has spanned the decades: to make this place a crossroads of human and cultural encounters, and to offer a friendly and affordable place to make your stays in the heart of Old Quebec unforgettable.
The Auberge, composed of three connected historic buildings, is located in the heart of Old Quebec. It is nestled within the fortifications, in the area of the city classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Close by, Château Frontenac, Place Royale and the main attractions of Quebec City await you for unforgettable discoveries.
The Auberge is affiliated with the Hostelling International Canada (HI Canada) association, which includes nearly 40 hostels from west to east across the country.

The history of the hostel
Here, the walls have one or two centuries of history! The main building, formerly called “Le Foyer”, was built in 1921 and was managed by Filles-du-Coeur-de-Marie. At the time, the house welcomed young female boarders and female travelers. The Foyer was also frequented by young girls who worked in the sector and came to eat their meal in order to be “protected from the dangers of restaurants”!
Another portion of the Auberge, formerly known as the “Dartigny House” was built in 1789, it is the oldest section of the Auberge quadrangle. This high-end residence was built of quality stone and now houses several of our private rooms.
